Executive committee votes to forward new member candidates to full council

Catherine Summ moved that the executive committee put forward three membership candidates — for a special education teacher slot, a charter-school representative and a student representative — to the full State Advisory Council for Special Education for a final vote. Jennifer Lussier seconded the motion and the chair called for the ayes; members voted in favor and the motion carried.

Committee members had previously reviewed whether the membership committee or executive committee should see candidate slates first. Catherine noted the current SAC bylaws specify a preliminary appointment process for student members; the membership committee recommended formally presenting all candidate types to the executive committee in the procedures draft and pursuing a bylaw amendment to match that practice.

Next steps: The committee moved into executive session to review candidate names and will present the slate at the next full-council meeting for member voting.
