Committee to accept private donations for Belle Isle plumbed bird bath

A Belle Isle resident described strong neighborhood support for a small plumbed bird‑bath water feature and presented a petition of nearly 200 signatures. Parks staff estimated plumbing, electrical and installation at up to $15,000 but said much of the work could be completed using city crews where feasible.

The sponsor and a colleague offered private donations and proposed a small plaque or donor recognition for contributors. Staff confirmed standard permitting and a limited electrical and water hook‑up would be required and said they would attempt to complete as much work as possible with in‑house personnel to reduce cost.

The committee voted to return to the full commission with a favorable recommendation to accept private donations toward the installation; staff will refine the cost estimate and identify what work can be completed by city crews.
