Newark City Council approves rezoning of annexed Ditmore Street parcel

The Newark City Council voted unanimously to adopt Ordinance 26-04, changing the zoning classification for 1509 Ditmore Street (parcel tax ID 058-2912-28-00.000), a property recently annexed from Newark Township, to a single-family residence RM medium-density district.

Connie Ma, an attorney representing the property owner, spoke at the public hearing and said the rezoning was necessary now that the property has been annexed into the city: “It’s only here for rezoning because the city recently annexed the property and we’re zoning it in accordance with your codes,” she said. Council members noted the change had been recommended by the planning commission.

Mr. Barker moved to adopt Ordinance 26-04; Mr. Neely seconded the motion. The clerk called the roll and the ordinance passed 10-0. Council members who were recorded as voting in the affirmative included Mr. Cost, Ms. Zingales, Mr. Labutis, Mr. Lumley, Mr. Marmie, Mr. Neely, Ms. Newman, Mr. Barker, Ms. Blind and the member listed in the transcript as Mr. Schock/Schuring.

The ordinance implements the rezoning for the parcel described above and brings the property’s zoning into conformity with city code following annexation. No petitions against the rezoning were presented during the hearing.
