Lafayette Parish School Board honors dozens of state athletic and academic champions

The Lafayette Parish School Board used its information-items period to recognize dozens of students and coaches who achieved state-level honors in athletics, speech, literary rally and other competitions.

Coach Jeffers and district leaders named state champions from multiple schools, including winners at the state elementary fitness meet, David Thibodeaux STEM Magnet Academy soccer teams, Lafayette High wrestling and track champions, Southside High swimming and powerlifting champions, and other individual and team winners. The board thanked PE teachers, coaches and parents and invited families to gather for photos.

The board also honored an Acadiana High student, Anthony, who performed life-saving CPR during a classmatemergency and was awarded a meritorious service award and an EMT scholarship offer from the National EMS Academy.

Superintendent Touchett and board members highlighted district academic progress, noting that LPSS ranked in the top third of U.S. districts for reading achievement and growth, and thanking community partners such as the Pew Family Foundation for support.

The recognitions were ceremonial; no board action was required. The board encouraged parents and community members to celebrate the accomplishments at forthcoming events.
