The Office of Hawaiian Affairs board voted to approve OHA’s positions on the 2026 Honolulu Charter Commission charter amendment proposals, adopting the committee recommendation as published with the Beneficiary Advocacy and Empowerment committee’s May 13 agenda.
Trustee Kaleya Akaka read the committee’s recommendation on the floor: “The committee on beneficiary advocacy and empowerment having met on 05/13/2026 and after full and free discussion, recommends approval of the following motion to the board of trustees. To approve the positions on the 2026 Honolulu Charter Commission Charter amendment proposals as reflected in the matrix published with the 05/13/2026 BAE agenda.” Following that reading, a roll call recorded affirmative votes and the secretary announced the motion passed with five yes votes.
The vote was conducted by roll call. The secretary reported affirmative votes from trustees present and declared the motion passed. The board did not record any on-the-record dissent during the minutes approval of this motion.
The action advances OHA’s formal positions for the Honolulu Charter Commission process; trustees said they will rely on the committee’s matrix as the authoritative record of OHA’s stances. The motion text and the committee matrix were cited on the record as the governing documentation for those positions.
The board moved on to other agenda items after the vote; no additional amendments or follow-up actions were specified on the record at the time.
