The Shawsheen Valley Regional Vocational Technical School Committee voted unanimously May 14, 2026, to nominate Ian Gosselin for the district's vacant business manager position, with the committee recording the nomination as pending contract negotiations.
Gosselin described a career that moved from classroom teaching to school administration and then into school business administration, telling the committee he has overseen food services, facilities, transportation and business-office functions in previous roles. "When things go bad, who do you look at? The finance guy," he said when recounting a past midyear deficit situation; he told the committee he alerted oversight early and worked transparently to resolve the shortfall.
Committee members probed his experience with regional-school accounting rules ("E & D" end-of-year reporting) and he told members he plans to take vocational E&D training that meets twice on June 18 and Sept. 24 and to arrange mentorship with a current regional business manager. "If I don't know something, I'll be the first to say I don't know and I'll go find the answer," Gosselin told the committee.
Members acknowledged Gosselin's operational experience but several stressed E&D and MSBA familiarity as critical priorities for the role; one member said he worried about repeating recent problems and asked for a plan of support and oversight if Gosselin is hired. The committee asked that administration require evidence of training and mentoring as part of initial onboarding.
The committee moved and seconded Gosselin's nomination and recorded a unanimous roll-call result. The nomination was recorded as pending contract negotiations; the committee and administration said they would follow up with further onboarding steps and an expectation of the E&D training commitment.
