Spooner Elementary Principal Mr Berghammer presented the district’s midyear Achievement Gap Reduction (AGR) performance update, reporting interim gains and restating the five‑year AGR performance objectives.
Berghammer said AGR requires participating schools to set performance objectives to reduce gaps between low‑income students and statewide peers. The school’s targets include 70% of students meeting end‑of‑year benchmarks in K–1 early literacy and early math and 70% in grades 2–3 for reading and math. He reported kindergarten fall baseline literacy at 71% rising to 82% in winter testing and noted strong typical/aggressive growth percentages in several grades.
Key numbers and context: buildingwide, 77% of students showed typical or aggressive growth on the early reading screener (FastBridge), and 79% showed typical or aggressive growth on the early math screener. In grades two and three the winter figures and growth percentages varied by cohort; Berghammer also noted student mobility (several students moved in or out between fall and winter testing) that affected percentages in some grades.
Response and intervention plan: Berghammer outlined district actions to support continued improvement: targeted professional development, building and district vertical alignment meetings, consistent PLC collaboration, classroom fidelity checks with feedback to staff, and interventions for students who have not yet mastered skills.
Next steps: The board had no questions and accepted the report; administration will continue to monitor spring outcomes and report at the end of year for AGR compliance and federal reporting.
