The Board of Education for the Two Rivers Public School District voted to approve routine financial items and heard operational updates at its regular meeting. The board approved payment of the district's February bills and a separate set of referendum bills, and it approved the January 2024 financial statements by voice vote.
The meeting packet read the February district bills amount as presented in the transcript text (format read as "1,616 $110.97") and the referendum bills as read in the transcript ("48,5 19.99"). The board voted to approve both sets of bills after motions and seconds. Board members did not request corrections to the financial documents during the meeting.
The board also accepted a $100 donation from Howard Zimmerman earmarked for student field trips; the donation was read into the record via a letter from Dana McClin of KIC and accepted by motion.
In operations, committee and construction updates reported steady progress on the district's building projects: steel-stud framing is underway, underground electrical and plumbing work and slabs for locker rooms have been completed, and selective demolition and fireproofing are in progress. CG Schmidt invited board members to observe a foundation pour for the gym scheduled for the coming Thursday; site supervisors Zach and Jason were given as contacts. The owner representative Michael Hacker was singled out for oversight work.
Board members also raised construction-related risks: lead-paint testing is under way in the locker-room area with abatement planned if required, and the district is evaluating replacing a roof section not included in the original bid because of numerous penetrations. District staff said they will solicit prices and bring options back to the board.
The board was reminded that, because spring break cancels a regularly scheduled March meeting, a contractor pay application normally approved at the late-March meeting may be routed through the review process and presented for formal approval at the first April meeting so contractors can be paid on schedule.
Ending: The board moved on to other agenda items after the operational report. The board later adjourned to closed session under State Statute 19.85(1)(f) to discuss a personnel financial matter.
