Director DS introduced Policy 4310, which outlines the district's relationships with law enforcement and other government agencies for student and campus safety. He said the district does not currently employ school resource officers and that the policy clarifies when and how law enforcement may be called.
"This policy comes up every year that we take a look at," Director DS said, adding that the supporting procedure is deliberately omitted from the public-facing policy manual for security reasons: making detailed emergency procedures public could create vulnerabilities.
Board members asked whether the policy language came from WASDA recommendations or district custom. Director DS and other administrators said they had not made substantial departures from WASDA language but noted the district had added protections for student privacy and clarified the district role if a school resource officer were engaged in the future.
A board member asked how to record routine policy reviews administratively; administrators confirmed that policies reviewed with no substantive change still should have their review date updated. The district's safety lead, Kayla, noted regular drills and a safety manual are in place but that specific drill procedures are not publicly detailed.
No policy change was adopted at the workshop; the board discussed next steps for legal review and communication when substantive policy changes are proposed.
