"You have to remember with this the employment pieces don't only follow State guidelines—they also have to follow federal guidelines because of funding requirements," Andrea told the board, and she advised seeking counsel and examples from other districts before making substantive language changes.
Board members asked staff to consult counsel and bring examples of district policies that balance student safety and equity. The board did not adopt language at the workshop; members suggested staff return with recommended edits and legal guidance at a future meeting.
Policy 6250 (cellular phones) had not been revised since 2011; staff noted the district rarely issues cell phones to employees now, and the policy can be retained as a formality while the district relies on radios and other communications tools for maintenance and operations.
No formal votes were taken at the workshop. The Chair then announced an executive session to discuss personnel, contract negotiations and potential litigation and adjourned the public meeting.
