Middlesex TSA students showcase state‑level successes; board recognizes teachers of the year

The Middlesex County School Board recognized multiple teachers of the year and heard presentations from students in the St Clair Walker Technology Student Association (TSA).

Board members introduced Emma M. Canon, the Elementary School Teacher of the Year (special education), Mr. Matt Short, the middle‑school technology education teacher and TSA sponsor, and Ashley Holhouse, high‑school English teacher and department lead. The board presented banners to each honoree and thanked them for their work.

Students from the TSA chapter described their program and competitive results: the chapter has 20 members and competed at a technosphere event in Hampton against 29 middle schools and more than 491 students; overall the chapter finished fifth among division entries and placed ninth in school‑level competition on other metrics. Student speakers highlighted technical and soft skills gained, including debate, presentation, coding and engineering design. "Because of your funding I am capable to do it to the best of my ability," chapter president Xavier Morning said, thanking the board for its support.

Superintendent and board members praised the students and teachers for building career‑technical skills and representing the district at regional and state competitions. The recognition and presentation were scheduled as part of the meeting’s educational highlights.
