Delancho Acevedo was sworn in to serve on a Daly City commission during a brief ceremony at the board meeting, where a fellow commissioner read highlights from Acevedo’s application and credentials.
The reviewing commissioner said the application showed extensive academic and civic experience, including a PhD from Cornell University in natural resources management and sustainable development, a master of professional studies in international agriculture, and a master of science in environmental studies from the University of the Philippines at Los Baños. The application also listed certifications as an enrollment counselor with San Mateo Health Service Systems’ health coverage unit and as a community health educator with federal health services.
Acevedo, introduced in the application as “Vinny Acevedo” and sworn into office under the name Delancho Acevedo, said the reason he sought the post was his long-standing ties to Daly City. "Since I started residing in Daly City in early 2000, it has become my passion to serve the residents in all ways I could," he said, adding that as an immigrant he wants to help newly arrived residents integrate and adapt.
The commissioner administering the oath described Acevedo’s interest in advising on fair employment policy, hearing personnel appeals and grievances, and representing public interest to foster trust and ethical administration. The oath was then administered and recited in full; Acevedo affirmed support for the U.S. and California constitutions and pledged to faithfully discharge his duties.
After the swearing-in, Acevedo thanked family and community supporters, including a contingent he had brought to the meeting, and pledged to "work with you the best I can for the interest of the Daly City community." Staff noted there were no formal staff reports and that they would send the new commissioner information on the regular meeting schedule.
The chair called for a motion to adjourn; the motion was made and seconded (names not specified on the record), and the meeting concluded with a group photo and refreshments outside.
