Charlton commission encumbers FY25 funds (up to $17,400) for Route 20 sewer cameraing and jetting

The commission approved a motion to encumber FY25 funds to perform camera inspection and jetting work on the Route 20 sewer line and to allow work to continue into FY26 so contract funds are not lost at the fiscal-year end.

Chris McClure updated the board that a temporary vault hatch cover for the Route 20 project had been fabricated and staged at the DPW yard; material cost for the temporary cover was about $4,500 and the final cover is expected to remain under $10,000. McClure said the final as-built drawings for the waterline will be provided when the project is complete.

Commissioner discussion centered on the need to encumber funds before June 30. McClure and Vinny said cameraing and jetting could take up to five working days on-site and would require closing a lane of Route 20 with police coordination. An estimate of roughly $6,000 was referenced for cameraing and jetting on a related section, and the Veolia agreement includes an annual line item (quoted in the meeting) of $17,400 for this type of work; commissioners voted to use that FY25 allocation and to allow expenditures into FY26.

The motion to encumber the FY25 amount passed on roll call; commissioners directed staff and Veolia to obtain firm quotes and schedule the work as soon as permits and police coordination are in place.
