The Fallbrook Union Elementary School District governing board voted to adopt Amplify Desmos Math California as the district's K–8 mathematics instructional materials following a teacher-led pilot and formal recommendation.
Teachers and district staff described a multi-stage adoption process that began last year and included data review, alignment to the California mathematics framework, and a five-week classroom pilot for each finalist. Jen Mariucci, president of the Fallbrook Elementary Teachers Association, said the committee included 25 general education teachers, instructional coaches, and specialists and reached “100% consensus among FUESD pilot teachers” in recommending Amplify.
Students who participated in pilot lessons told the board the program made math more engaging and helped them persevere through challenging problems. One student said the program’s feedback features and hands-on activities increased confidence and classroom participation.
District presenters emphasized implementation supports, including training, manipulatives and ongoing coaching, to help teachers transition to the new materials. During board discussion trustees praised the teacher-driven process and sought clarifications about rollout and long-term costs.
On the formal vote, a trustee moved and a second was recorded; the board approved the adoption by recorded voice vote. The board also approved related implementation steps and professional learning to support teachers.
The district will now finalize purchase and rollout planning; the adoption is districtwide for K–8 and will guide instruction in the coming school year.
