The Nacogdoches City Council unanimously approved a resolution canvassing the returns of the May 4, 2024, general election and then swore in two newly elected council members on May 21, 2024.
City Secretary Ronda Lewis read the certified returns for the Southeast and Southwest wards during the meeting and recommended the council adopt the canvass resolution. The council moved and the motion passed unanimously.
Lewis then administered the oath of office to Blain Williams, declared the winner in the Southeast Ward, and to Chad Huckabee, who ran unopposed in the Southwest Ward. Each took the oath to preserve, protect and defend the constitutions of the United States and the State of Texas. Mayor and council members congratulated both new members following the swearing-in.
The council’s vote to certify the election and the oaths concluded the canvass procedure; no roll-call tallies beyond unanimous approval were recorded in the transcript. The new council members were congratulated and seated immediately following the oath.
