Planning commission unanimously recommends city council consider ordinance for residential facilities for people with disabilities

The Sunset Planning Commission on May 14 recommended that the City Council consider Ordinance 2026-O2, which would add Chapter 13 — residential facility for persons with a disability — to Title 3 of the Sunset City Municipal Code. The commission opened a public hearing on the ordinance and received no public testimony before closing the hearing and taking action.

Chair said the draft ordinance had been worked on for some time and that the commission was "pretty comfortable with where we're at" before members voted to forward the measure. The recommendation was unanimous.

The commission's action sends the ordinance to the City Council for formal consideration; commissioners did not record further amendments during the meeting. The City Council will determine next steps, including whether to hold its own public hearing or adopt the ordinance.
