Wasatch High cheerleaders, coaches and Sterling Scholars honored at school board meeting

The Wasatch County School District board paused routine business to celebrate Wasatch High School students and coaches.

Board members and school staff recognized the high school’s cheerleading program, which staff said has been sanctioned as a competitive sport for two years. Coaches Tasha and Christina described the program’s two competition tracks — game‑day routines and a show‑cheer competitive routine — and noted the squad placed in the top three in multiple events at Nationals in Anaheim, California. Board vice president Kim Dickerson thanked the coaches and said several were program alumni who had returned to coach.

Cheer captain Emma Engle described team culture and the year’s theme, "come together," and said seniors leaving the program plan to remain connected through an alumni effort. "We couldn’t have asked for a better program — we all feel like siblings and this has been a home away from home," Emma Engle said.

The board also recognized Sterling Scholars. Stephen, the district advisor, explained the selection process — faculty‑reviewed portfolios, interviews and performances — and noted that Wasatch High produced four regional winners and eight runners‑up across 16 categories. Student Sterling Scholar Wayan described the interview experience at UVU and thanked teachers for preparation and mentoring.

Board members invited students to stay for the meeting and took a group photo with the cheer squad and coaches.
