The Los Angeles City Council used a presentation slot during the Van Nuys meeting on Feb. 27 to proclaim March 8 as Los Angeles Marathon day and hear remarks from organizers.
Councilmember K. Yaroslavsky introduced Murphy Wrienschreiber and McCourt Foundation representatives, who said the 2026 event is sold out with roughly 27,000 runners and 7,200 children participating in an associated K‑12 program run with LA Unified. The presenter told the council the marathon’s estimated annual economic impact is about $120 million and highlighted the race’s fundraising through its charity program, which has raised tens of millions for nonprofit partners.
The speaker thanked councilmembers for the proclamation and invited Angelenos to come out on March 8.
No formal council action beyond the proclamation was recorded in the presentation segment.
