The Kane County Judicial and Public Safety Committee on May 14 approved an RFQ award to GetRescue 911 to continue temporary telecommunicator staffing services for KingCom.
Miss Guthrie of KingCom presented the agency’s FY27 budget priorities, saying the agency’s primary focus is hiring to fill vacancies and that most revenue comes from subscriber fees and 9‑1‑1 surcharge receipts. "Our priority remains on hiring," she said, and noted KingCom had four recruits in background who were expected to move to psychological testing within a week.
Guthrie described KingCom as a special‑revenue agency whose major revenue lines include subscriber fees and a 9‑1‑1 surcharge. She said the center is asking state lawmakers for a $1 increase to the 9‑1‑1 surcharge and flagged a $400,000 ETSB reimbursement line for qualifying expenses such as headsets and training. She also explained contractual increases tied to the Starcom system and a planned transfer back to IT for shared services.
A motion to discuss and approve the RFQ was made and seconded; the committee took roll call and the resolution passed. The roll call recorded committee members voting yes: Greif, Gums, Linder, Pepe Williams, Leonard, and Molina.
The committee recorded no further changes to the contract award during the meeting. Guthrie said she will continue to track revenue and pursue legislative support for the surcharge request; KingCom also budgeted a full complement of vacancies for FY27 and flagged collective bargaining negotiations as a future cost driver.
The committee moved on to other budget presentations after approving the RFQ.
