At its May 13 meeting the Elgin City Council approved several major public-works and facilities contracts that together represent multimillion-dollar investments in the city’s infrastructure.
Council authorized award of Bid 26-003 (2026 water-main improvements) to Blue Water Construction in the amount of $5,022,655. The project includes replacement of approximately 2.3 miles of water main and replacement of five fire hydrants. Council discussed scheduling for a separate hydrant-painting contract to avoid painting hydrants that will be replaced.
The council also approved a five-year lead service line replacement contract (Bid 26-004) to Joel Kennedy Construction Group of Chicago in the amount of $7,880,448. The city identified lead service line replacement as a multiyear priority; the awarded contract covers five years of work under the program.
Other approved contracts included a public-works interior lighting job order contract to Charland Electric Company (amount presented in the meeting materials, roughly $265,680) and a job order contract for remodeling the Edward Schock Center of Elgin (contract amount presented as $3,614,958). The council also approved a small Omnia purchasing agreement for building automation services with Trane Technologies in the amount presented to council.
Council members voted on each contract by roll call and approved the items as presented. One council member asked staff to clarify a small discrepancy in the lighting contract quotes; staff committed to follow up before final execution.
