The Trophy Club Town Council on Wednesday certified the results of two May 2 elections and administered oaths of office to the winners, including Jeanette Tiffany, who will serve another three-year term as mayor.
Council staff said 1,263 ballots were cast in the elections, representing 11.84% of registered voters. The canvass reported vote totals for the mayoral contest as Jeanette Tiffany 983 and Janaye (Janette) Molinjak 275; council place 1: Sean Nelson 956; council place 2: Clark Simmons 944. A council motion to approve the canvass for the general election was moved and seconded and the motion passed.
Mayor Jeanette Tiffany later took the oath of office and outlined her priorities. "My mission for the next 3 years is simple, to deepen civic engagement in Trophy Club," Tiffany said, urging residents to participate in a town survey on behavioral health and community resources.
The council also completed the certification for a special election to reauthorize a 0.25% municipal sales-and-use tax for street maintenance. Staff reported the proposition passed and reiterated the total ballots cast; the transcript’s readback of the proposition’s yes/no tally was not legible and is not stated here.
During the session the council recognized outgoing councilmember Jeff Beach for more than a decade of service. Beach reflected on his time on zoning and planning boards and thanked staff, saying the town’s staff "really care about the community, and I appreciate all the effort that they put into it." Councilmembers offered personal remarks and presented a retirement memento.
The council also formally issued certificates of election and directed the newly sworn officials to sign their oaths before moving on to regular agenda business. The meeting recessed briefly after the swearing-in and then continued with scheduled items.
