Board debates NJSBA resolutions on ranked‑choice voting and PILOT language

The delegate said they were likely to vote "no" on ranked‑choice voting and "yes" on the PILOT language, and invited discussion. One board member explained the mechanics of ranked‑choice voting, noting that in an election with many candidates the transfer of lower‑rank votes to second choices can alter who ultimately obtains the needed threshold in successive rounds. "If you have a lot of people run and nobody gets [the threshold], bottom vote choice getters can actually influence who actually wins," the discussion recorded.

Other members noted that adopting NJSBA policy language in the manual would not mandate local implementation; municipal or state changes would still be required to change election law.
