Superintendent Jason DiPalco used the Sept. 14 meeting to preview the district's Blueprint 2.0 goals and to flag key instructional and operational priorities for the coming year.
DiPalco told the committee the district is rolling into year two of its blueprint with focused action steps around curriculum, instruction, the whole child and community partnerships. He said the district adopted a research-based K2 social-studies program and will be reviewing science materials, assessment tools and elementary standards-based report cards in the months ahead. DiPalco described priorities to implement multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS), strengthen data cycles and expand instructional learning walks so teachers can observe one another and share feedback.
He urged the committee to expect a fuller goals presentation on Oct. 12 tied to MCAS and accountability data and said leadership will continue monthly progress checks with building teams.
On enrollment, DiPalco provided a snapshot as of Sept. 11: Millville Elementary (PK-2) 360 students; JFK AFM Elementary (3-5) 358; middle school (6-8) 383; and high school 392. He said the district is tracking 16 out-of-district students and 28 homeschooled students, noting that homeschool families submit curriculum and hour reports annually for district review.
Operations and safety updates included a Rave app rollout for in-district communications. Denise (staff) said the district has imported staff contacts, set up geofenced areas and will coordinate Rave with local EMS before opening staff access. "It is an in-district communication," she said, adding that response teams and custom messages are being configured.
Facilities staff reported maintenance and safety work arising from recent moves: an added railing at the BMR track entrance; a faulty relay in a boiler-room ventilation circuit being ordered; bee nests treated on Nov. 14; and a clogged sewer line to the cafeteria that was cleared (facilities staff said baby wipes were the cause). The facilities report also flagged that some walk-in freezers and a fire panel at the JFK/AFM building did not appear to be on generator backup following a recent power outage; an electrician and facilities staff will investigate.
Business-office staff asked the committee for patience while capital-projects costs related to the MES move are finalized. The capital-projects object code (5450) will collect moving and related expenditures, with staff offering to present an itemized accounting at a future meeting.
What happens next: the superintendent will return Oct. 12 with a formal goals presentation tied to MCAS outcomes; facilities will report back with an itemized capital-projects accounting and any safety-system fixes.
