School committee authorizes MSBA statement of interest for BMR High School core renovation

The Blackstone-Millville School Committee voted March 10 to authorize district administrators to submit a Statement of Interest (SOI) to the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA) seeking entry into the MSBA’s core renovation feasibility process for Blackstone-Millville Regional (BMR) High School.

"I moved to authorize the district administration to submit a statement of interest for a core renovation project to the Massachusetts School Building Authority," Tim Howell said when placing the motion. The committee discussed that submitting an SOI expresses district need but does not commit the towns financially; acceptance by the MSBA would lead to feasibility studies and later project votes at town meetings and by the committee.

Committee members stressed that the SOI is an early step and that a feasibility study would test proposed options; the group discussed timelines and noted that, if accepted and fully approved, a resulting project could first affect town tax bills in the 2027 timeframe. The administration said it will form a capital working committee with town representatives to prioritize projects and coordinate public outreach including open houses and informational sessions.

The motion carried by voice vote; no roll-call tally was recorded in the public transcript.
