Board reviews transportation contract and procurement updates; food and milk bids to return for vote

Board packet items on May 5 included a proposed contract with Echoride for transportation services, procurement recommendations for food and milk contracts and a procedural update to Head Start grant paperwork.

On the bus contract, staff said both the district's attorneys and Echoride reviewed and accepted negotiated changes. "Both of our attorneys' office went through the contract with a fine-tooth comb. They made copious amounts of changes and Echoride accepted 100% of those changes," a staff presenter said, adding that a motion on the floor would authorize the superintendent to sign the agreement if the board approved it.

Procurement staff reported recommendations to award food and milk bids and explained that one bidder had been disqualified and appealed; an appeals hearing was held and the process followed public-bid law, staff said. Those bid packages arrived too late to be voted on at the current meeting and staff asked the board to take action at a later date.

Separately, the board was informed that Prime Time is the new Head Start grantee covering certain local services previously administered by Save the Children; staff emphasized no service interruptions occurred and there is no new funding involved.
