The Town of Clayton Planning Commission discussed a downtown wayfinding and banner plan that would add directional signs and identify an historic downtown boundary. Chair said the design lead, Dave, "has a deadline of June meeting" to complete materials and that proposed sign destinations include Lambert Park, Town Hall, public parking, the library and Cascade High School.
Commissioners proposed adding an "Entering historic downtown Clayton" drop-down on signs at each end of the district and directional arrows to local destinations, including Milk Creek. Participants noted practical placement limits on some poles and agreed some poles can carry banners on both sides while others are too close to buildings to host signage.
The commission also discussed sponsorship for banners. The chair said sponsorships have been solicited and that a $100 contribution is being requested; hardware for the new poles and banner mounts will arrive with the first package. The commission intends to relocate existing decorative banners where feasible rather than discard them, with the stated goal of beautifying downtown.
The commission did not take formal action but asked members to review the proposed sign points and sponsorship approach before the next meeting. Design materials and sponsorship confirmations are due before the June meeting, per the chair's timeline.
