Clayton updates: Howard Companies finishes milling and resurfacing under state CCMG funding; town covers 20% match

Commissioners reviewed recent roadwork and grant funding. The chair said Howard Companies was awarded the CCMG-funded project that milled and resurfaced Regan Street, a block of Ohio from Crawford to Cross and 500 South. The town owns about 5.7 miles of streets inside the town limits and is responsible for maintenance.

The chair explained the state program now provides an 80/20 match (state/local) instead of the prior 75/25, increasing the state's share and allowing the town to repave more road miles more quickly. The town's 20% match comes from the motor vehicle highway (wheel tax) fund (about $65,000to$70,000 a year, per discussion), not the general fund.

Contractors mentioned included Howard Companies (current project) and Midwest Paving (prior work on Western, Cumberland, Parker and York streets). The chair also cited a paving cost figure of about $8 per square foot. No new formal paving motion or allocation was made during this meeting.
