Oversight committee approves contingency Measure BP funding for NextGen summer youth jobs

The Baldwin Park Stakeholders Oversight Committee voted unanimously May 12 to approve staff’s request to continue the NextGen Youth Workforce Program and to authorize a contingency funding request of $105,000.

Staff described the summer initiative as paid work experience for Baldwin Park youth and said the county‑contracted vendor, MCS (Manage Career Solutions), has committed funding for approximately 40 participants through June. "The ask is $105,000 and that would fund 70 kids for 120 hours," the presenting staff member said, describing the committee request as a contingency if the vendor cannot cover July placements.

Staff said participants are typically 14 through 18 years old and that minors require work permits coordinated through the vendor or the school district. Work sites listed included Baldwin Park City facilities and Baldwin Park Unified School District locations; staff said a few placements might be at Kaiser facilities.

Pastor Jackson made the motion to adopt the item; Member Hernandez seconded. The roll‑call vote was recorded as Member Hernandez — yes; Member Orosco — yes; Vice Chair Jackson — yes; Chair Lara — yes. The motion carried 4‑0.

Rosa Bolero was acknowledged as the administrator who will manage the program if funded. Staff said they expect the vendor to cover June and that Measure BP funds would be used only as needed to ensure participants can complete their hours.
