Votes at a glance: Central Unified board approves contracts, grant awards and facilities items

Central Unified’s Board of Trustees approved a slate of action items at the May 12 meeting, ranging from personnel and contracts to capital projects and grant acceptance. Key actions were recorded by motion and voice vote.

The board approved two personnel reports and denied a late claim (GHC0088738) after closed session. On the consent and action calendar trustees approved acceptance of district gifts (three donations), renewal of student-and-family services contracts (item 2627), and the annual declaration of need for fully qualified educators for 2026–27.

The board approved an increase to an emergent contract covering temporary one‑to‑one instructional aides, moving the contract from roughly $825,000 to $930,000 to complete the school year. Trustees discussed that staff had originally projected savings from aid realignment and said the district is finalizing those calculations.

Facilities and procurement actions approved included a $252,590.96 project to relocate the long‑jump pit at Central High School, a $58,428 replacement of four HVAC units at a new pathway site to remove reliance on an on‑site propane tank, purchase and reimbursement acceptance for four replacement buses through a Measure C grant ($1,322,249.68), and authorization to increase a materials‑testing contract to address unforeseen soil conditions at the Justin Garza athletic complex. The district also posted bids for district fuel services and charter‑bus services that will return for award at the next meeting.

Administrative items approved by the board will return with implementation details and follow‑up reporting as required by department staff.
