District curriculum staff recommended on May 13 that Grayslake CCSD 46 purchase a one-year contract with Summit K'12 Connect to Literacy as a supplemental resource for multilingual learners.
Presenter Mrs. Bogren said the district evaluated alternatives this year and chose the product because it exercises all four language domains (listening, speaking, reading and writing), improves progress monitoring and includes licenses for students' parents. She told trustees the proposed change would yield a cost savings of $42,620 compared with the tool the district currently uses (Flashlight 360).
Board members asked clarifying questions about the reasons for replacing the current tool and whether the change was driven by cost or instructional scope. Mrs. Bogren answered the primary driver was instructional: the current product covers only two domains while the proposed tool covers all four.
Board members did not take a final vote at the May 13 meeting; staff indicated the item is expected to return for approval at the June meeting, when the board will consider the contract alongside other June agenda items.
