Youth Council establishes rotation to attend City Council meetings; Member Jackson to attend May 20

At the May 8 meeting the Youth Council agreed to form a small rotation so members can attend Cape Coral City Council meetings and report key actions back to the Youth Council.

Advisors explained the idea: one or a small pool of members would attend regular City Council meetings (which generally begin at 4 p.m.), watch agenda items of interest and present a short recap at the next Youth Council meeting. Member Jackson volunteered to attend the May 20 council meeting at 4 p.m. in Council Chambers; the council then moved to establish a rotation committee comprised of Member Jackson, Mariana McLean Fernandez and Chair Emma Brown to cover upcoming meetings and ensure at least one Youth Council representative is present.

Why it matters: Regular attendance will help Youth Council members stay informed about city decisions, identify issues for possible fact‑finding missions and increase communication between the Youth Council and City Council.

The body agreed to revisit and formalize the rotation schedule in future meetings and to allow members who cannot attend in person to view meetings online and report back if agreed by the committee.
