Coppell council approves 5% raise and contract extension for city manager

The Coppell City Council approved an amended employment contract for City Manager Mike Land that increases his base salary by 5% and extends his contract through 2029.

Mayor Pro Tem Jim Walker moved to approve the amendment, which the council said includes corresponding adjustments to deferred compensation. The motion was seconded by Council Member Carroll and passed on a roll-call vote with Councilmembers Walker, Carroll, Neville's, Premkumar and Matthew voting yes and none opposed.

Council did not provide additional amendments to benefits or other contract terms during the regular-session vote. The mayor was authorized to sign the contract and the city attorney had approved the form of the document, according to the motion presented on the council floor.

The action followed an executive session item described by staff as an evaluation of the city manager. Council members did not debate the salary percentage on the record during the public meeting; the motion recorded the increase, extension of term and the attorney-approved form of the agreement.

The council adjourned at 8:40 p.m. following the vote.
