Metro Crest asks Coppell for $196,625 to continue food, senior and family services

Metro Crest Services presented its 2026-27 request to the Coppell City Council, asking the city to provide $196,625 — the same allocation the nonprofit received the prior year — to support food, housing and senior programs.

Gabe (Metro presenter) said Metro Crest served almost 29,000 people in 2025 and described innovations including a client-choice food pantry, on-site lab work and pop-up clinics, a "food-as-medicine" approach and senior-focused "Golden Groceries" events. The presenter said Metro Crest is working to increase partner capacity and expand staff, with a stated goal of helping 10% of clients reach self-sufficiency.

Council members thanked Metro Crest for local service, recounted volunteer events (one council member reported distributing food to about 200 families at a recent volunteer shift) and noted that while Coppell's caseload is smaller than in some service-area cities, local need exists. Council asked for annual reports and supporting materials to be provided to staff and distributed to council members.

The funding request will be handled as part of the upcoming budget process. Metro Crest noted the request amount is unchanged from the previous year despite expected increases in demand.
