Planning staff to seek up to $750,000 in 2026 HOME funds; council to authorize resolution Tuesday

Director Gentry told the board the planning department will seek authority to apply for the 2026 HOME Program at the maximum allowable request of $750,000. The federal HOME funds would require no local match and the application deadline is June 11, 2026 at 4:00 p.m. Gentry said the program will notify applicants around Aug. 7 and, if awarded, contracts would become effective Oct. 1 with funds required to be expended by Sept. 30, 2029.

Gentry said the city had not received HOME funds since 2021 and staff plan outreach to potential homeowners and community partners through local churches, the chamber and Main Street if the city is awarded funds. Tia Lockidge will assist the city as its representative on the application.

The board agreed to move the resolution of intent to the Tuesday meeting for formal approval.
