Board votes to waive 30‑day notice on superintendent contract and moves to closed session

The Middlesex County School Board voted on May 11 to waive the Code of Virginia’s 30‑day notice requirement for voting on a renegotiated superintendent contract and then convened in closed session to discuss personnel, student and legal matters.

A board member moved to waive the statutory 30‑day notification period so the board could vote on the renegotiated contract at the June 8 regular meeting; the motion received a second and was carried by voice vote after the chair called for assent (the transcript records an opposed voice as well).

Immediately after that vote the board moved, seconded and entered closed session pursuant to the Code of Virginia to discuss personnel, student and legal matters. After returning to open session the board conducted a roll‑call certification that only lawful matters were discussed; those recorded answering "yes" included Dr. Bernett (chair), Mr. Kennedy, Mrs. McMahon and Mr. Reed.

The board then approved the consent agenda and adjourned for the evening. The waiver of notice clears the way for contract consideration at the June meeting; the transcript does not record contract provisions or final action on the contract itself.
