During its May 11 regular session, the Johnstown-Monroe Local Board of Education approved a number of consent and action items covering donations, contracts and policy updates.
Key actions approved by roll call included donations and scholarships (Charles and Patricia Kesler scholarships, Karen Hartman memorial gifts, an AED device donated via the Ohio High School Athletic Association and support from American Legion Post), several fund transfers (with the athletic-fund transfer removed for later study), the 2026 high-school graduation roster, and multiple service contracts. Contracts approved included school psychologist mentoring services (up to 20 days), continuation of the schoolage aftercare contract (July 1, 2026June 30, 2027), a lawn-care contract, a three-year waste-and-recycling contract with Republic Services (July 1, 2026June 30, 2029), and special-education services contracts with Newtory Schools and Learning Spectrum.
Board committees also reported on TIF/turf revenue reviews, facility projects at the north campus (parking, utilities, concession stand, multi-purpose building pre-construction), insurance utilization planning and upcoming staff convocation and PD dates, and extensive policy updates and readings (including an artificial intelligence policy appearing as a first reading). Many of the agenda items were routine continuations or multi-step policy readings; those measures were advanced or adopted per the agenda.
All listed resolutions were approved by roll call as recorded in the meeting minutes; the athletic-fund transfer described early in the meeting was removed for further study and will return to the board. The board scheduled upcoming work-session items, including transportation contract review and extracurricular budgeting.
