State delegation presents roughly $420,000 for industrial access as Sora readies local $80 million investment

State legislators joined the Houston County Commission at a meeting to present state funds intended to support industrial access for a new Sora manufacturing project in the county. Representative Steve Claus said the ceremonial check was "just a few cents shy of $420,000" for an industrial access road to bring businesses and jobs to the Wiregrass area.

Senator Donnie Chestine told the commission the delegation works to bring state dollars back to the region and summarized recent economic development activity: "over the last four years, we have had over $37 million invested in businesses here in Dothan and in the Wire Grass, creating over 900 good paying jobs," and he noted the delegation has secured more than $45 million in state grants for local projects.

Colton Purton of the Dothan Area Chamber of Commerce described the private investment: the Sora project is investing about $80 million in the area and creating roughly 66–68 jobs while producing chemotherapy drugs, flu vaccines and other products. "It's something to be proud of," Purton said.

County leaders thanked the delegation and listed a series of infrastructure grants and site-preparation programs that have supported industrial park expansion in the region. Officials cited multiple prior awards and programs, including Growing Alabama and site-acquisition efforts that they said helped secure developable sites.

The presentation closed with a photo opportunity and public thanks; the funds presented were described as targeted for industrial access improvements to support the Sora project. Commission members and the delegation encouraged future collaboration on infrastructure and site readiness to attract additional private investment.
