Homewood council unanimously approves minutes, budget transfer and vouchers; sets hearings on rezoning and alley vacation

The Homewood City Council on May 11 unanimously approved routine business items and scheduled two public hearings.

Councilor Simmons moved (seconded by Councilor Sims) to dispense with and approve the minutes from the April 27 meeting; the motion passed on a voice vote, 5–0. The council then approved item 180426, a budget transfer presented by Amy Zerry; Councilor Sims moved, Councilor Simmons seconded, and the measure passed 5–0 as Resolution 2652. "Any discussion?" the mayor asked during the vote; none substantive was recorded in the transcript.

The council also approved vouchers for the period April 28–May 11 (item 090526). The vouchers were presented by Mr. Bishoff and Kelly Lee; Councilor Lane moved, Councilor Sims seconded, and the council adopted the item 5–0 as Resolution 2653 after a brief clarification that the item related to the library. The mayor then confirmed that the previously added item 080526 (a request to vacate part of an unnamed alley adjacent to 200 Virginia Drive, brought by Mr. Pew) would be set for a public hearing on June 22 at 6 p.m. in council chambers.

Mayor Andress also read a public hearing notice for item 11:046: a rezoning request for 2773 and 2777 BM Montgomery Street to change from C2 (neighborhood shopping district) to C4 (central business district) to permit reuse of the buildings for a health fitness center; that public hearing is scheduled for June 8 at 6 p.m.

All formal votes recorded in the transcript were unanimous 5–0. No amendments or dissenting motions were recorded during the meeting.

Next steps: The council will hear public comment and deliberation on the rezoning application at the June 8 hearing and will take up the alley-vacation item at the June 22 hearing.
