The Montgomery County Commission opened its May 11, 2026, meeting by observing National Police Week. Sheriff Fusan read a presidential proclamation designating Peace Officers Memorial Day and Police Week, citing the joint resolution approved Oct. 1, 1962, and honoring officers who have died or been disabled in the line of duty.
Commissioner Walker led an invocation, praying for guidance for the legislative body and “for the citizens of Montgomery County,” and the assembly recited the Pledge of Allegiance. The clerk reported 19 members present and two absent.
The commission noted a memorial service hosted by the Clarksville Police Department at 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 15, at Clarksville Police Department headquarters, 135 Commerce Street, for fallen officers from the local community. The speaker also noted it was Sheriff Eucson’s birthday.
The proclamation read at the meeting references federal action from 1962 and the text naming President John F. Kennedy that originally established the observance. The commission took no formal policy action related to the proclamation; the observance was ceremonial and informational.
The meeting then moved to routine business and a collectively approved consent agenda.
