District facilities staff presented detailed schematic designs and site plans for three phase‑two referendum schools and reported construction is advancing with foundations and early site work underway.
The presenter said schematic plans were revised after staff and community review: Senate Middle School’s layout was reworked for student flow and supervision (new parent drop lanes, a straightened access road and a cafeteria opening onto green space); Cherokee’s design preserves a 250‑year‑old oak and seeks conditional zoning changes to keep bus staging on Cherokee Drive; and Toki/Orchard Ridge will emphasize green trails, separated bus and parent dropoff circulation, and outdoor learning spaces.
Why it matters: The phase‑two schemes will shape student circulation, safety, and community access and feed into construction documents. Staff said permits and final bids remain pacing items but that they anticipate sending a Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) for board approval in June.
Board questions focused on parking counts, accessibility (elevators, handicap spaces), how schematic designs reflect enrollment and building‑for‑the‑future scenarios, and plans to mitigate construction impacts on staff and students. Staff said they are conducting principal and community engagements through May and early June, will provide back‑to‑school presentations on finalized designs and plan temporary play areas and parking adjustments during construction.
