Harrison reports $500,000-plus in paving, schedules planning commission public hearing

City staff told the Harrison City Council on May 6 they have spent more than $500,000 on paving projects so far this year and are continuing resurfacing, milling and leveling work across several streets.

The streets report noted completion of reflective white downtown street-name signs funded by a grant, resurfacing on New Haven Road to remove a water-holding dip, and ongoing milling with a leveling course to follow on Edgewood Road and other locations. Officials said a road-assessment project will capture video of every city street to build a condition database for future prioritization.

The wastewater update said an intern passed the class 2 test and is on an eligibility list for potential employment; staff also said draft legislation on sewer laterals that extend beyond the curb and under the street is being reviewed for possible future adoption.

Councilmember Mr. Do and planning staff also announced a public hearing on the comprehensive plan at 7 p.m. May 12, preceding a planning commission meeting at 7:30 p.m., calling the hearing the first formal step toward adoption. The Harrison Civil Service Commission will administer a written exam June 13 to establish an eligibility list for entry-level police officers; applications are accepted May 11–June 5 with a $20 registration fee.

Officials encouraged residents to attend the planning hearing and noted additional community events including a splash pad ribbon cutting on May 21.
