The Canton Township Planning Commission voted unanimously to approve planning application PZ26-000043, permitting a proposed stain of the front brick façade at 44740 Ford Road as part of a reoccupancy by Nordstrom Rack.
Patrick Sloan, a township planner, told commissioners the primary change is staining the front brick and minor refinishing of columns; he said staff recommended approval “if the stain product and the color are acceptable to the planning commission.” The approved action allows the applicant to proceed with building-permit submittals to the building division for final review.
Staff explained the commission preferred staining over paint because stains allow brick to remain porous and avoid moisture-trapping coating. During discussion commissioners had no substantive objections. Commissioner Weber made the motion to approve, Commissioner Walther seconded, and a roll-call vote recorded unanimous 'yes' votes.
Next steps are for the applicant to submit detailed building plans and obtain the necessary building permits and inspections; planning staff will verify that final materials match the stain product and color accepted by the commission.
The commission’s vote clears the planning-stage review; actual construction and permit issuance will be handled by the building division under standard inspection requirements.
