The Pequannock Township School District board on March 2 approved FFA 141‑26, a motion to increase full‑time preschool tuition for the 2026–27 school year, after a lengthy discussion about program costs and competitiveness.
The motion was moved by Mr. Bloomer. Administrators explained that the district’s current full‑time preschool rate is $8,150 plus a $250 deposit and that operating the program below its certified cost results in an ongoing subsidy. To reduce the deficit, the FFA committee proposed a phased increase toward the certified tuition level rather than an immediate jump to audit‑based rates.
Board members debated the size and timing of the increase, noting local private and public preschools’ rates and the program’s waiting list. Administrators said the district’s certified tuition figure reflects audited program costs and that charging substantially below that figure keeps the preschool operating at a loss.
On a roll call the motion carried. Mrs. Espazito voted no; two trustees were not present for the vote. The board did not adopt additional waivers or program changes at the meeting.
Administrators said they will continue to monitor enrollment and program costs and will provide further budget detail at future meetings.
