The Geneva Committee of the Whole moved forward with a capital project to install security cameras at several city facilities, approving a resolution to contract with the low qualified bidder after a competitive process.
City Administrator White told the committee the $40,538 item (as listed in the draft resolution) is funded out of the FY2026 capital projects budget, a fund the administrator said provides flexibility for facility needs. White said the system will connect to the city’s existing monitoring and cloud recording system.
Facilities manager Pete Adams and other staff answered technical questions: Adams said the expected functional lifespan for the cameras is approximately 10 years depending on technology changes, the hardware warranty is two years, and the purchase includes per‑camera license fees to integrate with the city’s cloud storage. Council members asked whether the targeted buildings lacked beneficial camera coverage now; staff confirmed that some buildings did not have cameras in helpful locations.
Committee members approved the item by consensus; the clerk recorded a 7–0 result among those present. Staff said the cameras are intended as both a proactive safety measure and a response to past facility incidents where additional footage would have helped.
Next steps: staff will finalize contract terms and schedule installation and integration with the city’s monitoring system.
