CDR Data Catalog adds EPI code tags and domain classification; event sync and platform upgrade planned

Julie Alvarez, product owner for the Data Lakers team, outlined recent and upcoming Data Catalog changes. Two recent enhancements made visible in the catalog are EPI code tags (so users can see required EPI codes for schemas/tables) and a domain‑based classification that maps schemas to domains using guidance from the CMS Data Taxonomy.

Julie said an event‑driven sync between the Unity Catalog and the Data Catalog will roll out this Friday, reducing the delay for metadata changes from nightly (around 9 p.m. ET) to approximately two hours depending on ingestion volume. She also announced an underlying Data Hub platform upgrade to version 1.3.0.1 around April 17; the upgrade focuses on security fixes and minor interface changes and requires no action from users.

Julie asked attendees to complete a brief Data Catalog survey posted in the chat to help prioritize future improvements. In Q&A, she said there is not currently an option to download data dictionaries from the catalog but that the team is exploring it.
