Council reviews first reading to modernize charter and code publication

The Annapolis City Council received a first reading of CA126 on May 7, a measure to update requirements for compiling and publishing the city charter and code to reflect current electronic practices.

Council members and staff described the measure as clarifying and modernizing the charter’s language to allow for online publication while preserving some physical-copy practices through an amendment sponsored by Alderman Savage. Staff said the change aligns written text with current practice and is not intended to alter how the code and charter are received and updated.

Aldermen asked whether the measure was urgent; none identified a pressing timeline and members suggested additional review and input from Alderman Shanomire before advancing the ordinance. No final action was taken at the first reading.
