Daly City declares April Fair Housing Month; Project Sentinel urges continued discrimination investigations and services

Daly City’s council on April 13 designated April 2026 as Fair Housing Month and praised Project Sentinel for educating residents and investigating complaints of illegal housing discrimination.

Vice Mayor and council members noted the 58th anniversary of the Federal Fair Housing Act of 1968 and federal and state protections extended by the 1988 amendments and California law. Laura Diaz of Project Sentinel thanked the council for its partnership and said housing discrimination remains a present issue in Daly City and across the Bay Area; she encouraged residents to use Project Sentinel’s services and directed people to the organization’s website for details.

Council members recalled local histories of discriminatory covenants and underlined continued local efforts including prior CDBG funding to support Project Sentinel’s case management and outreach. No new funding was requested at the meeting; council members reiterated support for stronger renter protections and discussed potential future ordinance work on anti‑harassment and renter safeguards.

The proclamation acknowledges federal and state fair housing statutes and asks residents and community organizations to promote equal housing opportunity.
