Daly City approves $672,500 reimbursable grant amendment for smart‑corridor fiber work

The Daly City Council approved staff recommendations on April 13 to appropriate grant funds and authorize the city manager to execute Amendment No. 1 to the City/County Association of Governments (C/CAG) funding agreement for the San Mateo County smart corridor project.

Director Chu explained the amendment extends the funding agreement to June 30, 2027 and covers reimbursement of up to $672,500 for fiber splicing and cable termination work the city will perform as part of a regional intelligent‑transportation system linking El Camino Real and major parallel corridors. The current project phase already extends into Daly City and neighboring jurisdictions and is designed to improve incident response and congestion management for corridors serving US‑101 and I‑280.

Chu told council that the majority of IT elements are installed in the field, a systems integrator has been selected and system integration work is expected by year‑end. Staff said no additional city funds are needed; C/CAG will reimburse the city for eligible project costs up to the authorized amount.

Council members emphasized the regional nature of the work and the importance of collaboration across cities. The motion to approve carried by voice vote.
