Board votes to remove added language from high‑school levy ballot to avoid voter confusion

The Board of Trustees unanimously voted to remove recently added language from the high‑school general‑fund levy resolution after administration warned the amendment could confuse voters.

Denise Williams, who explained the levy process and Office of Public Instruction guidance, told the board that a valid levy resolution must specify purpose, the specific amount and a durational limit. At a special meeting the board had inserted an additional sentence preceding the high‑school purpose that would have stated the district could receive 100% of amounts the state declares necessary; Williams said that phrasing did not actually clarify purpose and could be misread on the ballot. She recommended deleting the amendment so both the elementary and high‑school ballots read consistently for voters.

A trustee moved to remove the amendment and to refer the item back to the budget and levy committee for further vetting. The motion passed unanimously among trustees present. Williams noted county election office deadlines require ballots to be submitted by March 19 and recommended the board avoid further last‑minute changes.

The action affects ballot language, not an immediate appropriation; the board did not adopt additional substantive levy uses at the meeting and directed further discussion to the committee.
