Laredo Mudfista 2.0 to raise veteran mental‑health awareness on March 28

Randy Dinoa, representing Awareness Warriors Foundation, told the committee on March 10 that Laredo Mudfista 2.0 will be held March 28 to raise awareness about veteran mental health and suicide prevention.

"This is to raise awareness for mental health and suicide prevention in our veteran and broader community," Dinoa said, noting sponsorship from Councilman Ruben Gutierrez and broad participation from local veteran groups. Organizers described a 'battle zone' obstacle course intended to build community connections rather than to function as a race.

Dinoa said the event expects nearly 800 participants and that some heats will run in groups of 24. Registration is required for the main 'battle zone' course because of logistical constraints and on‑site registration will not be available for that portion; a separate challenge course (the '17 reasons' challenge) will allow on‑site registration and encourages donations to veteran organizations but does not require them.

Committee members asked whether walk‑ins would be permitted and were told the 800‑person cap and logistics preclude on‑site registration for the battle zone. The presenter emphasized the event’s focus on connection and resources and said resource booths and food trucks will be available at the site. Organizers will send a layout and additional participant details by email as the event date approaches.
